No. Not preparing for Valentine's day. I understand what knots to try using thread drive on my VPI HW-19 with SAMA, but not exactly what the best strategies are to get the knot tied easily. I have maybe 1/4", a limited amount of space, in which I can adjust for length by moving the motor. My assumption is that pulling most of these knots tight makes the thread "belt" bigger (I'm using #4 silk thread). Any other observations?
Some questions:
1)Do you measure the existing belt and the thread length and mark the thread?
2)Do you tie the knot on the TT and motor spindle or, wrap it around something else that you're using as a template and then install it on the TT platter?
3) Does an extra set of hands help (my wife has reluctantly volunteered if needed).
4) How much practice, how many times does it take, before you are successful/proficient?I do have a Phoenix Engineering motor controller and Roadrunner so I'm thinking TT speed issues won't be a problem. I understand that I don't want the thread too tight and that there may be some slippage on start up.
Anything else?
Many Thanks, Barry
