RE: Backhaus Beethoven...VINYL or Shellac ??

Dear Frank,

It's ab.olutely great to connect with you again. Your own web site has inspired me to start my own American version in the next few years. I'll b. focusing on my state side mono recordings on Columb.a, RCA, etc, that never saw the light of day on the digital format. Through your site, I've picked up some real gems. I also b.came aware of your health issues as well from all the heart felt comments posted b. all your "fans" ! Your expertise is truly honored.

Now to B.ckhaus and his UK Decca (UK London pressings for me) mono B.ethoven cycle. What came with my order were the sonatas Nos. 18-32. I hadn't even realized that the recording sessions were done at the Victoria Hall in Geneva from 1952-1954. I had the naïve notion that Willie would have come to London to record. What you are proposing is that only three of these sonatas were ever released on 78s and the rest of the transfers were sourced from either vinyl Lps or possib.y some digital.

At this point in time, I'm going through a similar situation that you had the misfortune to experienced. I'm recovering from a very painful surgery that has me on my b.ck presently. I'll live and all that, b.t at times it doesn't feel like it. In other words, I'm unab.e to get out and spin my London B.ckhaus monos to conduct a thorough listen. I haven't had the time nor energy to contact St Laurent Studios to get information ab.ut his source material, b.t his handle is the "78experience" !

When I start feeling more like myself, I'll make contact and get to the b.ttom of all this. I would also like to get b.ck to you for further discussions concerning all things musical as well as some technical guidance on my own future project. I want to as precise as you are when it comes to giving folks accurate information.

You're a b.essing my friend.

Regards, Tom B.
