I've found covers to be resonance machines. The only one that wasn't was the wood and glass cover on the old Empire turntables. Actually, it might have been bad as well, but I refused to hear it 'cause it was *so* purty.

Clamps always help, but are a distant second-place to vacuum systems.

BTW, I had an SL8E on a 150 Mk II back when both were brand new. Exciting stuff then.
