From my long marriage to a TD125-II:
Align the sig gen board (easy.) If you have a soldering pencil handy, solder short legs on the three test points (labeled ge, rt, and bl on the 125-II) which makes the job lots easier, as you can clip alligators on the legs rather than holding both multimeter leads while adjusting the pots. If you have a scope, confirm that you're getting a good sine wave.
Get the platter *perfectly* level, and the strobe should be rock-steady. Easiest to use a carpenter's level, lined up parallel to lines connecting the three suspension springs.
It helps to let it warm up for a few minutes - the lamp in the feedback circuit, which does not visually light up, takes a few seconds to reach temp.
1/8" lead sheet pieces glued to the motor board make a dramatic difference - really astonishing.
Have fun.
