It isn't good for all applications, but sometimes works well: sorbothane. You can get 2-inch half-spheres on ebay for not much and use them as feet. This worked well on my old Thorens, where I ended up replacing the chassis springs with sorbothane, and then the feet as well. I tried several combinations of sprung/unsprung/rubber-mushroom'd/sorbothane'd chassis with various feet/spikes, and ended up liking sorobthane on both the chassis and as feet for the plinth. You can try either the plain half-spheres, or audio products like the Vibrapods or Quiescent Systems turntable feet. YMMV.
