I went through the same frustration with the recessed IEC. It was made that way because of some European restriction. If you take the cover off you will see how easy it is to flush mount an IEC and then you can use any power cord that you want. The other upside to this is that you will find some really cheap push on connectors on the inside.The ground wire had pulled loose and was just laying on the bottom of the chassis. I stripped out that junk and made solid connections---what a difference that made. Best Wishes.
