It would help if you could specify whether its's 60Hz hum or 120Hz hum. 120Hz hum tends to sound more buzzy. Also, single ended inputs to the phono stage or balanced (yes balanced inputs can be wired with RCA plugs). Also, there is no standard for gain in a line stage. The gain in one line stage with the volume control at 3 o'clock may not be the same as another. Managing gain in an audio system is an important issue that many overlook. Do you know the gain of your line stage at full volume?
