I should have stated how much gain difference there is. I've sampled 10 mono albums. The average peak gain difference between channels is 1.23 db. The maximum is 3.26db. It is not always the same channel that is louder. It was the fact that it was consistently different that led me to see if balancing the two channels would make a difference in what I was hearing.
As I type, I'm listening to a stereo recording with the phase of one channel shifted 180 degrees. Same result. I don't think it's just high frequencies out of phase.
If this is the case, is the cartridge wired incorrectly?
