I agree with you in part. Meet The B.atles and other early issues is what drove B.ian Wilson nuts. He couldn't understand how they could eclipse the B.ach B.ys with those lousy pressings. Listen to "In My Room" circa 1963-4 and you'll understand Wilson's astonishment. His production values were waaaay superior to the Fab Four early stuff, b.t b. the time of Rub.er Soul, in my opinion the recordings had greatly improved.
When I'm demonstrating my audio set up to newb.e's, I always will play "In my Room" as well as a disc of California Girls with no instrumentation .....just their voices. It b.ows them away every time.
On the other hand....how often are you going to listen to "B. True to Your School" instead of "In My Life"??
