I love Shure carts

Over the past several months I have gone pretty much all vintage with my rig, including a Garrard Lab 80 MKII table. I have been using a Shure M91ED cart on it, first with a Jico SAS, then a OEM stylus. But as great as it sounds, I've learned that from a compliance perspective perhaps not the best match for the heavier Lab 80 arm. It was recommended that a Grado 8MZ stylus would be a good bet. Since I happen to own both a F1+ and F2 cart I decided to order the stylus which will be here next week. But going through an box of old styli I found that I also own a Shure N75EC stylus, new in box. This stylus can track between 2-4g. The M75 and M91 carts happen to be identical electrically so slapped the the 75 stylus on it, increased the the tracking weight to just over 2.5g(although might go closer to 3g as an experiment) and it sounds fantastic. VTA rides higher as well so it seems the cart likes this stylus more than the original. Weird. Anyway the point of this post is how I love with older Shure carts one can switch up various styli to dial in better sound. A cool product of a bygone era.
