auto repeat function on technics sl-1300

i have just started using a technics sl-1300 and have no manual for it. i use it to spin records while i paint, and the auto repeat function is very handy because i only have hands clean enough for flipping or changing LPs every hour or so.

a dial on the right side of the plinth sets auto repeat. at least on mine, the dial does not seem to have an indicator line anymore AND spins endlessly - in other words there is no obvious way to set or reset the function or how many times it will re-play. the deck does replay when the dial is spun clockwise.

is it that the dial sets the replay's by the number of clicks it is turned after a stop?

thanks for any insights (other technics of this era may have the same function)
