imho, this is the best neil young record. recorded in an ann arbor coffeehouse while he was still part of springfield. totally solo. neil, his guitar and 2 mics. all of the songs and performances are great, and the simple analog recording system captured it vividly. lots of candid banter b/w songs - canadian accent still prominent.
hard to find on vinyl but worth it. sounds like a young NY playing live in your living room.
the thing that really stands out for me was how amazing NY was on acoustic guitar at this time. his playing here is spare yet rich and really brings these relatively complex songs across in a way that totally connects.
