Finished my speakers

Thought I'd post in Vinyl cause I spend more time here. Took seven months working weekends and some weeknights. Longer than I had anticipated, and of course not everything went right the first time. Several do-overs to get it right.

I followed Altec's design for the 816A low frequency cabinet and modified their 1242 Horn Travel Case for the 511B high frequency horn. The two are bolted together with a half inch plywood panel with black painted edge band between to make it a little easier to move.

I used 3/4 inch particle board with walnut veneer for the main box, two 1/8 inch layers of birch ply with zebra wood veneer for the curved horns and maple burl for the high frequency surround and to trim the LF horn.

The low frequency speakers are Altec 416A the high frequency compression drivers are Altec 806A, both 16 ohm with Altec's N500G crossover at 500 Hz. With a Fisher 800C and Thorens turntable with Audio Technica 440 MLa cartridge, I must say they sound great! I was surprised frankly, I didn't know what I was going to get as I had no expectations. I had read some reviews that were middle of the road on this gear. I'm sure with the time I've invested building these things my opinion is skewed. But I'm sure enjoying them!
