Recordfan,Since you’ll be in San Jose, your first destination should be The Analog Room, before considering a trek into San Francisco. They specialize in audiophile records (and equipment), hence the high prices. The shop is small but their collection is quite extensive, something like walking into a real life Acoustic Sounds catalog.
If you can't head up to San Francisco until after work, be prepared for an ordeal. Trust me, I commute between San Francisco and Silicon Valley. From San Jose after work, you should allow two hours driving time to the San Francisco shops mentioned.
