just re-issued on vinyl! an "exploitation" record made by early thin lizzy (with a different singer) playing mostly deep purple songs along with some originals.
the story is interesting - but the music holds up. enhanced by the fast recording process perhaps, the performances are fresh and energetic. if you like early 70's hard rock, this should put a smile on your face.
wiki link below. here is what permanent records says about it...
"New LP - Funky Junction - Play a Tribute to Deep Purple (180gm vinyl) - Crazy weird record recorded by the original Thin Lizzy lineup (featuring a guest vocalist and keyboardist) in the early Seventies when they were hard-up for some cash! Originally released on the "Stereo Gold Award" label in the UK and USA, this oddball slab of wax is reissued here by Kismet Records - here's what they have to say:
"180 gram vinyl version. This terrific exploitation album was swiftly recorded under a pseudonym in late 1972 by the original Thin Lizzy trio (with a little help from the singer and keyboard player from Dublin rockers Elmer Fudd. Featuring a mixture of covers of Deep Purple songs and originals, with some searing guitar work by Eric Bell. Background notes included."
Pretty sweet album for what was essentially a cash and grab from Thin Lizzy - recording all nine tunes in one day's session (a real testament to how solid a band they really were)! The Deep Purple covers don't really stray too far from the originals, but it's the OTHER "originals" that are worth the price of admission; particularly "Palamatoon" - a snakey, synth-driven, guitar-wailin' instrumental floor-filler that is sure to get the rumps of go-go girls and heshers alike shakin' like a polaroid picture and sounds a little like Giorgio Moroder jamming with, well - Think Lizzy. Ha! Conversely, "Dan" is a Hendrix-ian guitar soundscape that launches into the STRAT-o-sphere... get it? STRAT? (ok, ok - sorry 'bout that). A cool slab of wax and a great companion piece to Thin Lizzy's recently reissued first album. Get it, bros - RECOMMENDED!"
