Actually 12 is probably a little high. I was using a sound meter app on my Android phone this morning and at 54db gain on my phono listening to a Starker/Brahms recording at 10 on the Fisher registered between 70-80db which was dynamic yet comfortable. And I certainly had the headroom if I was playing a jazz or rock recording and wanted to go higher. Just surprises me that I wouldn't need more gain for a .23mv cart. The Fisher is 35 wpc. I will shortly be testing out a different amp that is 26 wpc. Will be interesting to see if I need to go more gain at that point on the phono.
