The trick behind the decks is that they are statically balanced by providing a constant weight of 1 kg (arm + mounting) at the arm base, using adaptors for different arms.see GB 2 107 913 at http://gb.espacenet.com/
The idea behind the upstanding weights on the transcriptor tables was to minimize contact surface between record and platter as to reduce problems with static electricity. The Gyro's platter is slightly conductive (so says werner) and the weights still serve to provide rotational inertia without adding too much mass, which would affect the bearing's design.
The SPj La Luce table uses the same principle.
