Interesting history. It's a shame your father decided to give up his business after seeing the first CD players on display. He obviously didn't listen to those players, because if he did, he would have known that analogue technologies would thrive till well into the next millenium! How did Michell come to occupy the old Transcriptor premises? It may be true that your father designed the turntable that appeared in the film "A clockwork orange", but it is also true that the same design became the Michelle Hydraulic Reference since JA Michell manufactured the same TT under license. You must also admit that Michell has made great strides since that time, and has made several important innovations that could not be credited to your father.
Ultimately, it takes more than engineering genius to build a business. It also takes business savvy, and most important of all, vision. Who would have thought we would still be using vacuum tubes and vinyl records in the 21st century? But people like Michell and Audio Research never lost faith.
