that they only have one set of numbers, but they have 2 output choices that put out significantly different levels. Which do the numbers apply to (rhetorically asking)? I don't know what to make of the differences we're seeing. My other preamp is also nice, a Monolithic Sound PS-2 w/ 60db of gain, and I don't have reason to doubt their spec's either :-) I do know that looking at the level meter going to my Alesis Masterlink, that the PS-2 was sending more juice than the JD-9 set for MM/Hi Output was. The JD-9's level was 5-6 db less than what the PS-2 sent to the Alesis, so who knows? I do know the JD-9 sounds damn good, good enough that I don't regret selling my PS-2, although it wasn't better than the PS-2, but it was close. Perhaps I shouldn't call this "gain issue" a flaw, but rather a point of confusion. Using the Lo outputs, which I think we both agree sound fine, should enable any MM cart to work with it.
