Settings for high output mc and JD9 / JD9a explanation...

Congratulations on purchasing a fine phono preamp. '-)

For that high output 20XH at 2.8mV, you should use the "MM" 70dB switch and I'd try loading it at 1K Ohms with zero capacitance for starters. Use the "HI" output if you can. I'm able to use the high output with a 2.5mV mc cartridge without over driving the integrated amp. You'll find that the volume setting will be comparable to a cd player signal, which is handy for switching between components.

PS: Tubes is right. Those Groove Tubes 12AX7-M's are a very good match with the JD9.
