I once spent an evening with the designer of the original Mission 774 tone arm. He was an old friend of a best friend. He was not an audiophile and had never designed an audio product before the arm . He told me he just used good mechanical design principles to design what turned out to be an excellent product. I forgot his name but I do recall he went on to design a turntable and arm i the USA that was regarded as top of the pile by many reviewers including Gordon Holt.
