To a large extent, blame TV.

Or rather marketing. Almost all of that music is used for advertising and it just won't go away.
Blame restaurants, too. The music services they use play that stuff to death. My wife and I have a game, the Hotel California game. We try to guess how many songs into the meal before we hear "Hotel California" and which ever one of us guesses closest pays for the meal.
Some of those dad bands, I hated them right from the start. Aerosmith for example, and Steely Dan. Genesis and Chicago.
I'm currently ridding my collection of that stuff. No more Who. Why do I have a copy of Tommy if I can only stand to listen to Side 3? And I might go on a killing spree if I have to sit through "Baba O'Reilly" one...more...time.
All that Seventies rawk shit is getting cleared out. Selling it off to the local bricken mortar.
BTW, I'm good with every Pink Floyd album except DSOTM. I didn't listen to Wish You Were Here , or Animals back in the day, and the US versions of their earlier albums were butchered. Floyd's OK in my book.

The blissful counterstroke-a considerable new message.
