For years I believed in the models you presented that show how damping reduces the resonance frequency slightly. However, the instructions that came with my SME III stated that its silicone damper would increase the resonance frequency slightly. I always thought this was an error until I recently read an old AES article by Shure on their cartridge-damping stabilizer. Here is the empirical data they presented.
