Great post, I really enjoyed reading your similar experiences HiFi.
Agree completely too on Al Hirt, I heard him frequently growing up (from my parents). I also like the first Chicago LP (1969, Columbia) when they were known as the Chicago Transit Authority. Listening to their big trumpets wail on that double Lp sometimes brings tears to my eyes it's so good. THIS IS MUSIC!
Same thing with CHASE (Bill Chase) on Epic. Bitchin' brass!
