I don't think we have a dispute here, except perhaps for the term modern equivalent. "Modern" I buy, but the table you site is not an equivalent. I was writing about the SL1200 class of TTs, as was Fremer.
I was not commenting on all DD TTs. Good HEAVY plattered ones have been around for generations. Think: Goldmund. The Technics SP10 has a 17.5 lb. platter with weight distributed to the perimeter.
Harry Weisfeld showed more than 10 years ago that if you throw sufficient resources in the direction of DD TTs you could build a top performer even in the USA. Brinkmann is doing it in Europe, and now Technics in Asia. But these are major technical departures from the the SL1200 class both in electronics, motor technology and in platter weight, and therefore flywheel.
