RE: the VFD has outputs of 0, 90, 120, and 240 degrees ...

If I understand your explanation, the VFD would indeed drive the Premotec AC motors used by Linns & Regas.

Am I correct in thinking that, with one of these motors, you would select the 90 deg output (as well as the 0 deg) but could then adjust this between 75 & 105 deg, in 1.5 deg steps? If so, that's a very useful capability ... but 0.5 deg increments would be much better.
