I think some people are missing the point. You don't want to buy everything in one shot because of the cost. O.K. first thing to find out is how much is your table worth, as is complete? You really like the arm, great, are you going to recoup enough to buy a new arm if you sell that one on your existing table? Can you easily sell your table without an arm?
If the money you're going to get for your table is minimum why don't you 1)buy a new table 2) take your existing arm and cartridge off and put it on the new table 3) box up the old table and hang onto it for a year or so, and 4) when you can buy a new arm and cartridge,put the NAD back together and sell it.
I also don't think there is anything wrong with buying a cartridge first and putting it on the NAD if you absolutely plan on getting a new table in a year or so, but I don't think you have to spend a fortune. There are many nice cartridges in the $200-$300 range.
