Can a cartridge be too good for a table?

I am in the process of looking at upgrading my table but it is becoming too expensive to do in one shot. So I want to do it in stages. I have a NAD 533 which is a Rega P2 and Rega 250 arm.

If I put a good $700 - $800 MM cartridge on this table will it be a good upgrade or just show up weaknesses on the table.

Right now I'm using a Shure m97xe and I'm planning on the Audio Note IQIII (IQ3)
