important as the table IMO and is often an afterthought.
The cartridge is totally dependent upon the arm and table to perform its duty to its optimum performance. Putting a good cartridge on a compromised arm and table only lessens the ability of the cartridge's performance to the level of a much less expensive one. Better to get the table and arm to their optimum before wasting $$$ on a cart which cannot take full advantage of its cutting edge qualities.
Then, even if the TT and arm are up to the task, one would be much better off spending $1500+ on a good phono preamp than a cartridge. A good phono stage will make a $400 cartridge sing. A $400 phono stage will not pull all the delicate signal from a $1500 cart. And what it does extract will lack the good qualities which the cart fed to it.
