In Reply to: Can dirty cartridge pins create distorsion? posted by Peter Olofsson on July 31, 2007 at 09:22:23:
the sound, but I doubt actual *distortion* is caused by dirty cartridge pins. Like Ed, I clean my cartridge pins whenever I change cartridges. But I may not change cart's for over a year, so I undo the pin connections and clean them every six months or so. I do likewise with ALL my system connections. After cleaning with Caig, a metal cleaner, or even 91 or 99% alcohol, you might try judiciously applying something like Walker's SST. I use it on all connections including cart. pins and feel it allows a bit more smoothness, dimensionality and detail.

- More likely a loose connection or bad solder joint would cause distortion/intermittent sound. nt - Rick W 17:34:31 07/31/07 (0)
