True....but....

...digital as used in professional recording studios is about as far removed from the redbook CD specification as a 4 course meal at the Ritz is from a Big Mac and Fries. The data which eventually finds its way onto a CD is downsampled to 16bit, 44Khz and - in the case of pop music - is often compressed within a few dB of the headroom.

Admittedly - IMO - the mastering of the disc is far more to blame for the headache inducing sound quality than the bitrate or sample rate but regardless of that, when a digital recording is cut onto a vinyl disc you are (or should be) getting the full, high resolution digital audio, relayed through professional standard DACs as opposed to a downsampled lower resolution signal which will eventually be replayed on a lower grade consumer level DAC.

Still, I think the debate of digital vs analogue is of less importance than proficient mastering. A good engineer can produce superb sounding audio from surprisingly prosaic equipment, digital or analogue. Equally, a poor engineer can be presented with some of the most desirable, expensive and highest quality pieces of gear in the world and still make a pigs ear of it!

Kind Regards,

Matt
