Re: Could I get a concise complete rundown on vinyl/analog superiority reguardless of equipment?

There are things in life where the possibilites of being content with certain knowledge are impossible. Either you need somebody to tell the answer to you or you need to find an answer yourself. This situation is particularly difficult for people who are by nature curious. Ever try to think of something that comes up during a conversation, only to walk away and hope that it comes to you, but it never does? I'll assume you were able to get over that mental anguish without going insane.

Now, here's where vinyl comes in. The problem is sometimes folks need the mental validation of why something sounds better. But what does better mean? By mass concensus? By personal satisfation? By the laws of phyics? Sound is incredibly subjective, so much so that telling somebody the medium that ought to using is aken to telling them WHAT music the should listen to. The thing is, something is going on between the eardrum and psyho-emotional contentment. I don't think this can be qualitative. It's too personal. When I first starting reading around the vinyl asylum, I found the debates vs. digital quite entertaining, but alas I also never found the knock out punch. You can't argue on the basis of numbers. This debate doesn't have anything to do with numbers; its in our heads. I have longed since cared how vinyl compares to digital. All I know is I want a stylus sliding across PVC, and this was validated to me recently (and others) when I finally got around to ripping all my favorite records onto CD. The sound is still there, so the one's and zero's aren't the problem. My CD's sound like my records, and I am enjoying that fact. All the dymanics are there. That seperation of intstuments. The highhat ticking away like its in my room. So where does this leave the digital debate? Am I left to conclude that I do a much better (my subjectivity) job of burning a CD than a record label does? Why is this the case? I cared for about 10 minutes...and then I didn't care. I'm realizing that my enjoyment of my music is much more important than a subjective debate. I don't mean to belittle your own personal quest, I just don't think you are going to find what you are looking for. Actually it reminds of when I was taking calculus II, and I my head was spinning around and I had so many question about why something was the way it was. So I went to one of the engineers in my company and asked for advice. He chuckled and said "just push the 'I believe' button....".

Sorry about this being a "my feelings" post, but that's what its all about. If you want to ponder something, go sit outside at night with a cold beverage and ask yourself how all those white dots got up there.
