I've been trying to gather all the statements on how good analog/vinyl is vs CD and digital. SO far I havn't found one post that states it completely with facts.the facts are there but what sounds good is subjective.
The facts about how vinyl "can" at its best go to 40kz.no, it can't actually.there's no music at 40K anyway that any human can hear. vinyl is good for about 20-20K on a neauman lathe and about 20-16K on a scully/westrex. half speed will get you more high end.
Dynamics, harmonics, detail, resolution, PRaT, Attack/Decay, etc etc
I guess I need a complete Essay with everything we here on AA has been discussing the last few years.I like coke better than pepsi. I like a u67 microphone better than a u87 90% of the time. I like vinyl most of the time better than cd's. Cd's have a huge problem in that they are mastered really poorly generally. Much vinyl was too, but the sound tends to go dull rather than harsh. You can include in your paper the different distortion measuments of vinyl and redbook cd, but keep in mind they are a different sort of distortion (vinyl tends to be second order harmonic). Really, as much as everyone gives john elison a hard time, he came here because he does like the sound of record as well as cd's. That's his choice. Your paper, by its nature, will be somewhat subjective.
