I wouldn't argue about the superiority of analog over digital except to say that everything must be converted from and to analog in the end. In other words, the objective is always a better analog representation.I would, however, argue that the LP has the potential to sound better than a CD. At CD resolution a 5KHz waveform will only be defined by 8 points, and a 10KHz waveform will only be defined at 4 points. This limits the HF detail that can be delivered, and when you hear a really good recording on both formats the difference can be quite obvious.
That said, it's very easy to put together a great sounding CD system (and the SACD pretty much ends the debate), but it's tricky and potentially expensive to get better results from a phono based system, so it helps to already have a love for electro-mechanical acoustic technology. :)
