I think some of what you've experienced here may be the Thorens TP 13
arm, that was the stock arm on the TD 150 MK II, and IMHO it's the best arm Thorens ever made, many knowledgeable Brit. analog folks seek those arms out and feel they're superior to a Rega RB300.
the TP 13 has a cannon ball looking counter weight and matching smaller outrigger, I have two of them and am In the process of rewiring my 2nd one (graciously donated by Mosin)
The tables are a matter of taste to one degree or another, personally I'm a 40 yr+ Thorens afficianado so I'm highly biased
there.
I believe the TD 150 has endless tweaking possibilities.
