One is that due to the relatively low cost of the OC9, a lot of people have tried it that have never owned or possibly even heard a better cartridge. So moving from an old, budget standard it would seem like heaven.
Second is expectations and suggestion. A lot of the same people have been told that it will sound great and so they have that as a reinforcement of their finding from the just mentioned experience above. In other words, they do hear an improvement and feel that not giving it the praise that they have heard it deserves would make them less "with it".
This also explains the popularity of a terrible sounding cartridge such as the BPS as well as a few others. I don't think the OC9 fits this catagory and that is not the point I am trying to make. I simply found it to be a very nice sounding cartridge at a fair price, not a world best and not even near it.
