Re: Please help me Pick a Birthday Cartridge!

I've been using a Denon DL103 on my L78/RB300 for a while now, still very happy with it. I've set the dial on top of the bearing housing to 3.5, moved the counterweight to the back end of the stub and set VTF with a gauge. This disengages the internal spring of the RB300 as much as possible and raises the effective mass/lowers the total resonance frequency.
Paired with a good MC phono pre or maybe a good stepup with a good MM tube phono pre, the DL103 sounds great for the silly price, i paid 130 euro from Phonophono in Germany. The L78/RB300/DL103 combo is fairly forgiving when it comes to superficial scratches, the other day i played a 1960s Rob Hoeke record (Dutch boogie woogie pianist) that looked dirty, scratched and worn even after cleaning, i heard some campfire between the songs but that's all. Read the 6moons review of the Garrard 301 project, the author uses the OL silver arm with a DL103.
Keep on "Lenco-ing", the Lenco army marches on! And the Garrard 301/401 army, and the Thorens TD124 army, and the Rek-O-Kut army...

Greetings Freek.
