Please help me Pick a Birthday Cartridge!

This is one of those â€œfor my friendâ€ questions. Actually, it is a â€œfor one of my sonsâ€ question. :-) I asked this on Audiogon, too, but there is a different set of users here and I always get slightly different, and appreciated, takes on the same subject.

Having been bitten heavily by the analog bug, my son was excited to build with me one of the Lenco project tables which we fitted with one of two Origin Live Silver arms that I owned. He is coming up on a milestone birthday and Iâ€™d like to buy for him a cartridge for this arm that he can live with for some time. He has tried a few cartridges, so far, which I will not mention because I do not want to cloud opinions. His listening tastes include classic rock (but not head-banging metal), reggae, instrumental bluegrass, female vocals, and a smattering of jazz (mostly fusion-based) â€“ no classics, and virtually no small piece works. So, the low end is important, string and vocal texture is important, and he definitely gravitates toward dynamics (which is why, I think he has liked some of the MM cartridges weâ€™ve tried) and soundstaging, as opposed to absolute detail (though detail is a bonus and appreciated. He can do MM or MC presently.

I hesitate to mention any cartridge name or model or price lest I limit opinions. So, leaving it wide open, what cartridges might folks recommend for THIS arm, considering his tastes, which does not exceed, say, $1K retail new? Thanks
