Phil, if you are interested in coming to London as mentioned, i have a fully working, no issues, EMT 948 for sale. I also own a Thorens 124 and a EMT 930.
The choice is really down to personal taste as you can see from the various posts.
None of the mentioned T/T's are in any way bad.
The EMT direct drives are the easiest to use, virtually plug and play, and require little to no maintenance.
The idlers require more maintenance and if not found with a decent tone arm and plinth, it will take a while to get it up and running.
The 948/950 is very neutral sounding.
The 930 is like a bigger more authorative Garrard.
And the 124 is the sweetest and most lyrical.
I guess out of all of them the Thorens would be the closet in tone to what you have now, but still not really comparable.Regards
