you're considering an EMT950...I'd expand my horizons a bit.The grandest of the grand old direct drives, other than the EMT 950, would be the Kenwood L-07D and the Technics SP-10 MkII. The Technics is easier to find that the Kenwood, but if you can find an 07D it will cost a pretty penny. Great table from a great era and a serious collectors piece.
Those DD's in the proper plinths and newer arms, will hold their own with almost anything made today (maybe everything, but that's too presumptious).
