The Emt 950 is the best of these in my experience (301/401/948/950). I would match it with the Emt cartridge (tsd 15). The full console version is really heavy but there is a 'desktop' version which is a bit more manageable.
There is a dealer of ex BBC gear here in the UK who often has 950s for under £1000. He advertises in the back of HIiFi World magazine. He only gives a telephone number :44 (0) 1246 275 479. I haven't dealt with him but at least it gives you one more possible source.
