a good many isolation devices sold in the audiophile world are very effective and designed by real mechanical engineers that know what they are doing. But I agree that there are a lot of ridiculous "isolation devices" out there, cones are my favorite. the irony is that they can make an audible difference by tweeking resonant frequencies in some cases. A good example in my case was when I coupled a TT subcasis to two bars of lead. The cones really coupled the lead in a way that regular feet couldn't and it did make a difference.
