RE: Cones

The answer in the linked Q&A to the question, "Do pointed cones really provide good vibration isolation?", seems a rather good one; it's consistent with other explanations I've seem but does go into greater depth than most.

The agruement is more or less against the operative principle of "mechanical diode" instead suggesting that alteration of resonant behaviour is the key, and as far as beneficial effect goes suggest such is hit or miss.

It seems to me that any type of purely rigit "isolation" device, cones, hard/dense wooden blocks, etc. should be examined from the perspective of resonant behavior modification since as the Q&A material suggests it is hard to suppose (they say "impossible") that a rigit device could "stop vibration".

As for myself I've yet to witness rigit cones have *any* sonic impact; however my experiece with such is limited to a set of metal cones I own and to usage of "racing cones" (in a limited context) in another system. However I did recently use the spikes (standing on fairly thick coins) provided with my speakers and they do seem to have tightened up the bass a little especially when playing very loud. Of course I've come across cones in use at stores but never done any with/without swapping to confirm an effect.
