With the recommendations of Joseph Esmilla (who designed my JE Labs phono stage) and Stereophile, I installed an SC35C/N35X on my SME 3012 last week, replacing an Audio Technica AT150MLX. I could not be happier with the resulting improvement! Quieter surfaces, cleaner highs, more dynamic range, more "body", better (by far) low end, etc. etc. Best $56 I ever spent on my system! I might add that even with the conical stylus, I've never had the sense that I am giving up any detail - just noise. Especially if you have a lot of vintage vinyl (like me!) I say go for it. By the way, I find the sound at 1.75 grams VTF much better than at higher settings (which seem to compress the treble range adding some unpleasant harshness). Your results may vary of course.
