I would expect so but can't quantify that.
I agree with MBS and Sgreen, based on listening to a VPI Scout with standard belt drive, then with a Teres rim drive installed. All else was equal other than the drive system and the rim drive was hands down more musical and enjoyable on all counts. Of course that Teres unit cost as much as the arm AND table, but I certainly preferred that combination.
