RE: Fremer Slams Sound of Technics SL-1200 in Latest Stereophile

I have collected, bought, sold and refurbed many vintage TT for the past 10 years. DD, belt drive, idlers. There are differences between these 3 ways to spin the TT. But also huge differences inside the 3 categories. Yes i have (had) DD TT's that suffer from a certain harshness in the mid-highs. But i also have (and will not sell!) a ca.1970 Sony PS-2250 that sounds warm, soft yet detailed and with a firm bass. No hint of harshness. It's a matter of build quality and materials used, and condition of course, after all these years.

Remember, even the "wheels of steel" the SL-1200/1210 are out of production, the DJ's have left the vinyl medium. So DD's will become extinct, the top notch vintage DD's cannot be replaced by new product so they will go up in price even more.

"The torture never stops"

Greetings Freek.
