OTOH....

....for some reason Technics thought the SL-1200 could be improved.

why did they go to the trouble of building the SP-10 Mk2, and SP-10 Mk3 if the SL-1200 was so perfect? why did they go to the trouble to build those tt's with better motors, heavier better built platters, and separate motor controllers? just for grins?

people i respect that have spent time with SL-1200's think that the SP-10 series is quite a bit better at speed stability than the SL-1200. and i have owned both the SP-10 Mk2 and Mk3. and i've heard better speed performace than those 2 in other dd tt's.

disclaimer; i've never spent any time with any SL-1200 and have no opinion one way or another about it. i do, however, give Mr. Fremer the benefit of the doubt about his opinons about tt's and would suspect he is closer to the truth than not.

would an SL-1200 (KAB or not) be exposed compared to DD tt's in my system? i have no idea and i'm not inferring anything like that one way or another. it's simply interesting what gets lots of attention here.

likely 50%+ of the people right now involved in this thread would not be here if Mr. Fremer had not pushed the vinyl case in the last 15+ years.
