When it comes to flutter and the SL 1200

The SL 1200 has less than the measurable flutter created when a stamper pressing process cuts the center hole in an LP pressing. Your LP is going to have more wow and flutter than an SL 1200 playing a perfectly centered stamper.

The analog quartz lock does not hunt. This is a comparator circuit that looks for the rpm variance of the turntable vs the feedback information from the quartz oscillator. If there is a deviation it will correct this but it never has to hunt for the rpm. The rpm is measured faster than the correction used to lock the rpm.

The result of the Technics analog quartz lock speed accuracy is world class wow and flutter performance. I know of no tests by a valid source that prove otherwise.

Mike may not like the sonics of the SL 1200 and that is fine by me. Mike is a valuable friend of vinyl and I appreciate his contribution to keeping vinyl vital and alive.

When it comes to measurable aspects of the table, I wish Mike had not guessed at why the table sounded this way or that way. In the end, perpetuating the hunting and searching pulp fiction of direct drives is a dis-service to audio.

That's my opinion Steve.

I will go one step further. I love every SP-02 Neumann lathe produced album using similar quartz feedback circuits. There is nothing in the Technics quartz lock system that is an issue. Its a tried and true process that creates world class wow and flutter measurements from LP playback.

Cheers
