I hope that the conversation so far is constructive-
There are a lot of great points that are well articulated

I would also like to posit that as each component is necessarily a compromise, and as you suggest at the outset, the room creates certain limits - and can not be easily swapped of from AA Trader or USAM...

Perhaps the room as an enhancer for the system/speakers might be looked at from this perspective

To the extend that you find the sound great - especially as compared w/ shows and other systems/homes - focus on the bits you feel confident to change - TT/Arm/Cart, Preamp?
and leave the speakers/amp as is with the given room...


I am not fully convinced that newer is better...
