Over the years I have had probably 14 or so cartridges done by Andy. I once came across a batch of carts that needed retip, sent them in and then resold them to fund a nice turntable upgrade.
Everything I ever got back from Andy sounded great and worked well. The last cartridge I sent him was a Koetsu Urushi where the diamonond just fell off in the middle of a record. Andy uses Namaki styli, and I got the line contact on boron cantilever as replacement. I happened to had a NOS one with a bit of wear to the finish I bought at a reasonable price to use in the interim and do do a parity check when the rebuilt one returned. What I found was they sounded exactly the same. Does this mean every cartridge can have this happen? No. But I suspect if you can get the same level of quality diamond and cantilever you are going to get very very close to OEM sound.
The other person I would consider using is Steve as VAS.
